Sharkpoint – Where Grey Reef Sharks Rule the Blue
On the north-eastern tip of Addu Atoll, off Hulhumeedhoo, the reef drops away into open ocean. Where the wall meets a wide sand plateau at around 30 metres, you'll find one of the most reliable shark encounters in the Maldives: locals call it the "Shark Hotel," and on a good day, 15 to 60+ grey reef sharks circle right above the sand, with occasional visits from larger oceanic species cruising past the drop-off into the deep.
This isn't a one-off sighting you hope for. It's a resident population, holding position in the current, largely indifferent to divers who keep their distance and let the scene unfold. For anyone who has dived sharks at busier sites and felt the encounter was rushed or crowded, Sharkpoint is the opposite experience: open water, a handful of divers, and sharks that simply belong there.
A note on tiger sharks
Addu Atoll does see tiger sharks from time to time, particularly in the cooler months — but unlike Fuvahmulah, sightings here are occasional, not guaranteed.
We won't oversell what we can't promise. What we can promise is one of the most consistent grey reef shark encounters in the southern Maldives, in a setting you won't be sharing with a dozen other boats.
