Best Dive Sites in Addu Atoll – Maldives

The Addu Atoll is considered one of the best yet still little-known diving regions in the Maldives.

Here, you’ll discover a wide variety of dive sites featuring large marine life, healthy reefs, and impressive wrecks – all without the usual tourist crowds.

The atoll is crossed by four natural channels – Gan Kandu, Vilingili Kandu, Maa Kandu, and Kuda Kandu – and offers around 30 dive sites in total.

These channels are among the most exciting in the entire archipelago. The incoming currents create ideal diving conditions for divers of all experience levels.

Chances are excellent to encounter different shark species (grey reef sharks and tiger sharks), manta rays, eagle rays, barracudas, Napoleon wrasse, and sea turtles.

Especially famous is the manta cleaning station in Maa Kandu, where these gentle giants can be observed all year round.

In the heart of the atoll lies the “British Loyalty,” an oil tanker wreck from World War II – a paradise for wreck enthusiasts. Clearly visible traces of torpedo impacts make history feel incredibly tangible.

As the Addu Atoll is surrounded by the open ocean as an isolated reef system, its walls and outer reefs offer spectacular dives with steep drop-offs and, depending on the season, breathtaking visibility. Here, you seem to glide above an underwater volcanic peak – always with the feeling that a majestic sea creature could emerge from the depths at any moment.

Our experienced guides select dive sites daily according to the conditions and ensure safe and unforgettable diving experiences.
